Current Favorites

I’ve been really out of it when it comes to updating my blog, but I’m back and ready to share some of my current favorites.

I’ve been really loving the Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel to spot treat any pimples on my chin and jaw line. That’s normally where I get most of my breakouts. My best friend first introduced me to it when we were in Cancun this summer and I got a pimple right after our flight. It shrinks down the pimple overnight and I was happy with that. I decided to buy it right when we got home.

I use the L’Oreal Hydra Genius Daily Moisturizer after I tone my face. (If you have recommendations on a good toner, please let me know!) I have the one for oily skin but I feel that it works for my combo skin. It gives me enough hydration but doesn’t over moisturize. It sinks into the skin quickly and that’s what I like most about it.

I’ve been testing out the Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum. I was reading about how Vitamin C serums help with collagen boost and could also help with uneven skin tone. After I use it, I feel like my skin is so soft. I’ll continue to use up the bottle.

I love the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation and I use it every time I wear makeup. I’m obsessed. I use it with a makeup sponge and it applies beautifully. I apply it in sections because it does dry pretty quick on the skin. Once my foundation is done, it looks flawless.

I loved the rose facial spray so much I wanted to try the Mario Badescu Aloe Facial Spray. I figured that the aloe and green tea would help with the redness on my face. I spray it on a cotton round and apply it to the redness on my cheeks. But my favorite way to use it is as a setting spray for my makeup. My face feels refreshed and I find that it removes that powdery look of makeup.

This is the Flower Beauty Ultimate 3-in-1 Blending Sponge. I know how dirty it is and I was just lazy to clean it before I started this post. So please excuse that. Without wetting this sponge, it’s already super soft. But once it’s damp, it’s doubled in size and even more bouncy. I love using this to blend out the fenty foundation. The tip isn’t pointy enough for blending out my under eye concealer but I use it to blend concealer on my forehead, nose and chin.

I hope you enjoyed my current favorites, let me know what some of yours are! I’m always up to trying new makeup and skin care products.

Quay Australia x Kylie Jenner Iconic Sunglasses

Yesterday on a random trip to the mall, I noticed a poster of Desi Perkins in a Solstice Sunglass outlet store. I automatically assumed that they would be selling Quay Australia sunglasses there. I went inside and found the sunglasses on display. I lost my Quay sunglasses in the style “Sorority Princess” while scrambling to get to another stage at Coachella this year and haven’t gotten around to replacing them yet.

I was trying on a bunch of the different styles, having a few laughs with my boyfriend. He didn’t like many of the more retro styles that I liked so it made it a funny experience for the both of us. I finally settled on the Kylie Jenner collab in the style “Iconic.” The display only had them in gold/purple so I was debating if I should get it even though it wasn’t the color I wanted. The sales associate said they had more colors in the back and I quickly asked for the white ones in the same style. When she handed them to me, I put them on and decided right away that I had to have them.

These aviators have a flat reflective lens (even though the picture above doesn’t look like it). They don’t feel cheap. Definitely more sturdy than Forever 21 sunglasses that I normally buy. I decided to splurge on these because I’ve been wanting them since they dropped but couldn’t justify the price tag. So instead of buying it right away on impulse, I waited to save money for it. The other colors in this style are nice but I feel like the white frame really makes it pop and I don’t have any other sunglasses like it. The leather zip up case is better than the usual case that comes with Quay sunglasses. It definitely makes is easier to carry in your purse without damaging them.

They’re pretty oversized. I tend to gravitate towards bigger sunglasses. I think it compliments my round-ish face very well. The flat lens doesn’t touch my cheeks, which is perfect for us makeup wearers. The sales associate at Solstice said I could come anytime to get them adjusted, which is a nice plus. Some people may not like the mesh detailing, but I feel like it gives this pair of sunglasses something extra. It doesn’t feel too heavy on the face too. I think these will be sunglasses that you can use all year round. The reflective lenses are perfect for the spring/summer and the white frame will compliment darker fall/winter colors.

Life Update

Life has kept me away from my regular posting schedule so I thought that I’d come back and share a little update on what’s happened recently in my life.

At the end of last month, my boyfriend and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary. We decided to keep it simple and have a chill day around town eating, shopping, and of course, flying his drone.

This is a photo of me and one of my besties at our best friend’s wedding a couple of weeks ago. We had so much fun sharing their love and I wish the day didn’t go by as fast as it did. There were many struggles that day but it was so beautiful, I found myself crying like a baby all day long. Do you cry at weddings? I certainly do.

Last weekend was my goddaughter’s 5th birthday and my dad decided to make a surprise visit all the way from Seattle. It’s been about 6 months since we’ve seen him so we were so happy to see him. I cried, I was so happy!

I got out of my comfort zone and decided to do a cut crease eyeshadow look with the Morphe 35K palette. It’s not the best look since it was my first time attempting this, but I liked the outcome!

I’m also working on a vlog that should be up sometime this week. I hope that I can hop right back into my regular posting schedule.

My Experience w/ Eyelash Extensions

I just recently got a fresh full set of lash extensions and I couldn’t be happier. Last year before Coachella was the first time I ever considered getting lash extensions. At first I was a little apprehensive because I didn’t know much about it. Of course, I did a little bit of research and got a recommendation to a location by my best friend, so I decided to take the plunge into getting the process done.

My lashes, in my opinion, are medium length. They are naturally straight and don’t hold a curl unless I use waterproof mascara. My first experience was ok. It made my lashes more full and gave it a little bit more length. It wasn’t as dramatic and curly as I thought it would be so I decided not to get my second fill done and naturally let the extensions fall off.

A few months after that, a friend contacted me saying that a friend of his was getting into lash extensions and was looking for girls who were interested in a complimentary full set for more experience. The end result was more full and slightly longer but nothing too dramatic. I also decided not to come back for a fill.

I thought that I was done with eyelash extensions at that point but at the end of last year, I came across a lash tech that my friends from college were going to and the lashes were full, long and super curly. I fell in love. I decided to schedule an appointment before my birthday earlier this year.

Fast forward to summertime and here we are. These are a classic set of size 13 D curl lash extensions and I love them! My lash tech is incredibly sweet and took her time with my lashes. It didn’t hurt and I was completely relaxed that I was able to take a nap for the last part of the session.

Now taking care of your lashes… The first 24 hours you aren’t supposed to get the lashes wet. I believe that it helps the glue set. But don’t quote me on that. That part isn’t hard for me because I wash my face outside of the shower with my Clarisonic Mia 2 and I avoid the eye area. I also don’t normally wash my hair everyday.

You also need a lash wand to brush out your lashes everyday. That’s a pro tip to the longevity of the lashes. I use this one that I got awhile back from the complementary lash extension session. It’s retractable and perfect to bring in my makeup bag. You can wear makeup with lash extensions and its recommended to use only oil-free makeup products. My favorites for foundation are the L’Oreal Pro-Matte or the Milani 2 in 1 foundation. I haven’t found an oil-free concealer that I like so I’m still on the hunt for that. (Also don’t put mascara on your extensions) I also use the green Garnier micellar water to remove my makeup. It’s gentle on the eyes and I use a Q-tip around the lash line.

If you have questions on lash extensions, please feel free to ask me. I’m not an expert and I can only give you my honest opinion based on my experience. Also, I would love to know if you’ve ever had eyelash extensions done or plan to get it done in the comments!

Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in Transcendence

I’m the type of girl that likes a blinding highlight all the time no matter where I’m going: work, grocery store, night out, etc. I also love bold and different highlights. You probably guessed that since the Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild glow kit is one of my favorite highlights.

When my best friend Char first used this highlight in Cancun I was definitely intrigued. When I asked her what glow she had on her cheeks she said ” Have you heard of the putty highlight? It’s kinda like the colourpop highlights” When she said that I was sold. I love the colourpop highlights since it feels different. I loved the way it looked on her so I was set of buying it when we came back.

Since there’s an ulta close to my work (which is both a blessing and a curse) I decided to stop by to see if they had it in stock. Unfortunately the shade she had wasn’t in stock and I decided to try Transcendence instead since the swatches I did in store looked promising.

I normally use the Morphe M501 or Anastasia A23 brush to highlight. But when I tried to use the brush with it, it didn’t look like I put too much on my face. The website suggested using a makeup sponge or my fingers. I applied it with my finger and blended it with a brush so it didn’t look like a line of highlight on my face.

I don’t think this picture does it justice. It’s coming off more subtle than in real life. Looking in the mirror I could see more of the purple/pink that this gives off. I have to play around with this highlight some more but I do like it. I don’t normally apply my highlight with my finger so that was something to get used to. I’ve used this a few times since I’ve purchased it and will continue to do so. I do want to get the other highlight in Kitten which is more of  gold highlight.

My Favorite Highlights

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful these highlights are…. It was really hard to really narrow it down but I did it. I have a few products that have been my favorite for awhile and then a new product that came out a couple of months ago.

First up is this highlight that should be of no surprise to you, Becca Cosmetics & Jaclyn Hill collab, Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop. This highlight gives you a glow that you can see from miles away. I think even the aliens on another planet can see this. Every time I wear this I know it’ll stay on and beaming all day long. I choose this for special occasions and I just love it. I think I’ll cry when I hit pan, that’s how much I love this.

I absolutely love the Anastasia Glow Kits. My favorite is Moodchild. I’ve always seen myself as someone that explores colors when it comes to makeup so when this came out last year, I JUST HAD TO HAVE IT. Shout out to my boyfriend who gave this to me on our anniversary last year! It may not be an everyday highlight, but I find myself using it every day. My favorites in this are Blue Ice and Pink Heart. But I love to use a combo on my cheeks such as Star at the apples of my cheeks and Blue Moon on my cheek bones. OBSESSED. They are too die for and I find that a little blue highlight on the tip of my nose just gives my makeup look a little something extra. Like alot of beauty bloggers say, this can definitely be used on the eyes as well, but I have yet to try that. The first time I used this glow kit I found that I had more people looking in my direction and that’s when it hit me that I had a blue highlight on and I didn’t mind it at all.

I searched almost every Sephora and Ulta to find the Laura Gellar highlight in Gilded Honey. After having no luck, I thought to myself that I would never find it in stock. One random day my friend and I decided to go to Ulta and there it was. Definitely meant to be. The beautiful swirl is what attracted me the most but it is such a beautiful gold highlight. I reach for this when I don’t want the peachy tone of Champagne pop and want something more golden. It’s beautiful on the skin, especially if you spray your highlighting brush with setting spray to intensify it.

The newest of my highlight obsessions is the Anastasia Nicole Glow Kit. There’s mixed reviews about the palette but I love it. While others don’t like to see actual glitters on their face, I don’t mind it with this glow kit. Nicole Guerriero is one of my favorite youtubers and I knew once this dropped, I needed it. My favorites are Kitty Kat and Daydream. Daydream is beautiful if you’re going with a warm tone look with orangey eye shadows. I don’t have any other highlights that shade and I love it.

Here are the highlights swatched on my arm. Of course, my face is a little lighter than my body, but you can see how beautiful they are!

Left to Right:

ABH Nicole Glow Kit Kitty Kat & Daydream, ABH Moonchild Glow Kit Pink Heart & Blue Ice, Becca Champagne Pop and Laura Geller Gilded Honey.

I use 2 brushes to highlight: Anastasia A23 and Morphe M501 (I know there’s a bunch of controversy regarding Morphe brushes shedding, but the M501 brush hasn’t shed on me yet. If I did experience that I would definitely share)

I hope you liked my favorite highlights. I’m thinking of doing more posts like this so please let me know which makeup product you want to see me talk about next!

What’s in my bag?

I’m sure you aren’t surprised that my every day bag is a backpack since it’s on trend right now. But this backpack is convertible and I purchased it at Ross before Coachella last month. This is a Multisac convertible backpack with 2 zipper side pockets and a snap closure pocket on the front. It looks so small but I can fit a bunch inside. There’s a zipper pocket inside and two other smaller pockets. Here’s what’s inside:

First thing on the list is my Mini Happy Planner. I am obsessed with planners and have a bunch of different planners in my collection. I chose to bring this one everywhere with me because of how compact it is and it doesn’t hurt that it’s super cute! I normally only have one pen in my bag for work but I also have a bunch of different colored pens that I use in the planner too. I always need sunglasses with me because my eyes are very sensitive to brightness. These have an aviator kind of style with mirrored lenses. Mirrored lenses are perfect for the warmer months and we’re getting lots of sun and blue skies here in the Bay Area. I also have my vlogging camera, Samsung NX Mini. As you can see, it’s a very convenient size to carry around. I have an Apple lightning charging cable and a portable charger by Anker. I’m on my phone so much that it dies a little quicker. I wouldn’t want my phone to die in an emergency situation. I have a blue Michael Kors card holder where I keep the essentials. I have this pale blue Rebecca Minkoff keychain/mini wallet. I put my cash and change here since the card holder is a little snug for it. I can’t go anywhere without my car keys and my bright blue pepper spray makes it easier to find. A girl’s bag isn’t a bag without some makeup items. I have DUO eyelash glue, Maybelline Better Skin powder, Wet n Wild liquid lipstick, Essence make me brow gel, and chapstick.

My bag doesn’t have anything too interesting. Surprisingly, I didn’t have any trash or leftover food in my bag this time. There’s a pocket in the back of the bag that perfectly fits my iPhone 6 Plus. So that’s a plus.
