My Experience w/ Eyelash Extensions

I just recently got a fresh full set of lash extensions and I couldn’t be happier. Last year before Coachella was the first time I ever considered getting lash extensions. At first I was a little apprehensive because I didn’t know much about it. Of course, I did a little bit of research and got a recommendation to a location by my best friend, so I decided to take the plunge into getting the process done.

My lashes, in my opinion, are medium length. They are naturally straight and don’t hold a curl unless I use waterproof mascara. My first experience was ok. It made my lashes more full and gave it a little bit more length. It wasn’t as dramatic and curly as I thought it would be so I decided not to get my second fill done and naturally let the extensions fall off.

A few months after that, a friend contacted me saying that a friend of his was getting into lash extensions and was looking for girls who were interested in a complimentary full set for more experience. The end result was more full and slightly longer but nothing too dramatic. I also decided not to come back for a fill.

I thought that I was done with eyelash extensions at that point but at the end of last year, I came across a lash tech that my friends from college were going to and the lashes were full, long and super curly. I fell in love. I decided to schedule an appointment before my birthday earlier this year.

Fast forward to summertime and here we are. These are a classic set of size 13 D curl lash extensions and I love them! My lash tech is incredibly sweet and took her time with my lashes. It didn’t hurt and I was completely relaxed that I was able to take a nap for the last part of the session.

Now taking care of your lashes… The first 24 hours you aren’t supposed to get the lashes wet. I believe that it helps the glue set. But don’t quote me on that. That part isn’t hard for me because I wash my face outside of the shower with my Clarisonic Mia 2 and I avoid the eye area. I also don’t normally wash my hair everyday.

You also need a lash wand to brush out your lashes everyday. That’s a pro tip to the longevity of the lashes. I use this one that I got awhile back from the complementary lash extension session. It’s retractable and perfect to bring in my makeup bag. You can wear makeup with lash extensions and its recommended to use only oil-free makeup products. My favorites for foundation are the L’Oreal Pro-Matte or the Milani 2 in 1 foundation. I haven’t found an oil-free concealer that I like so I’m still on the hunt for that. (Also don’t put mascara on your extensions) I also use the green Garnier micellar water to remove my makeup. It’s gentle on the eyes and I use a Q-tip around the lash line.

If you have questions on lash extensions, please feel free to ask me. I’m not an expert and I can only give you my honest opinion based on my experience. Also, I would love to know if you’ve ever had eyelash extensions done or plan to get it done in the comments!

Stila Heaven’s Hue Highlighter in Transcendence

I’m the type of girl that likes a blinding highlight all the time no matter where I’m going: work, grocery store, night out, etc. I also love bold and different highlights. You probably guessed that since the Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild glow kit is one of my favorite highlights.

When my best friend Char first used this highlight in Cancun I was definitely intrigued. When I asked her what glow she had on her cheeks she said ” Have you heard of the putty highlight? It’s kinda like the colourpop highlights” When she said that I was sold. I love the colourpop highlights since it feels different. I loved the way it looked on her so I was set of buying it when we came back.

Since there’s an ulta close to my work (which is both a blessing and a curse) I decided to stop by to see if they had it in stock. Unfortunately the shade she had wasn’t in stock and I decided to try Transcendence instead since the swatches I did in store looked promising.

I normally use the Morphe M501 or Anastasia A23 brush to highlight. But when I tried to use the brush with it, it didn’t look like I put too much on my face. The website suggested using a makeup sponge or my fingers. I applied it with my finger and blended it with a brush so it didn’t look like a line of highlight on my face.

I don’t think this picture does it justice. It’s coming off more subtle than in real life. Looking in the mirror I could see more of the purple/pink that this gives off. I have to play around with this highlight some more but I do like it. I don’t normally apply my highlight with my finger so that was something to get used to. I’ve used this a few times since I’ve purchased it and will continue to do so. I do want to get the other highlight in Kitten which is more of  gold highlight.

My Favorite Highlights

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate how beautiful these highlights are…. It was really hard to really narrow it down but I did it. I have a few products that have been my favorite for awhile and then a new product that came out a couple of months ago.

First up is this highlight that should be of no surprise to you, Becca Cosmetics & Jaclyn Hill collab, Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop. This highlight gives you a glow that you can see from miles away. I think even the aliens on another planet can see this. Every time I wear this I know it’ll stay on and beaming all day long. I choose this for special occasions and I just love it. I think I’ll cry when I hit pan, that’s how much I love this.

I absolutely love the Anastasia Glow Kits. My favorite is Moodchild. I’ve always seen myself as someone that explores colors when it comes to makeup so when this came out last year, I JUST HAD TO HAVE IT. Shout out to my boyfriend who gave this to me on our anniversary last year! It may not be an everyday highlight, but I find myself using it every day. My favorites in this are Blue Ice and Pink Heart. But I love to use a combo on my cheeks such as Star at the apples of my cheeks and Blue Moon on my cheek bones. OBSESSED. They are too die for and I find that a little blue highlight on the tip of my nose just gives my makeup look a little something extra. Like alot of beauty bloggers say, this can definitely be used on the eyes as well, but I have yet to try that. The first time I used this glow kit I found that I had more people looking in my direction and that’s when it hit me that I had a blue highlight on and I didn’t mind it at all.

I searched almost every Sephora and Ulta to find the Laura Gellar highlight in Gilded Honey. After having no luck, I thought to myself that I would never find it in stock. One random day my friend and I decided to go to Ulta and there it was. Definitely meant to be. The beautiful swirl is what attracted me the most but it is such a beautiful gold highlight. I reach for this when I don’t want the peachy tone of Champagne pop and want something more golden. It’s beautiful on the skin, especially if you spray your highlighting brush with setting spray to intensify it.

The newest of my highlight obsessions is the Anastasia Nicole Glow Kit. There’s mixed reviews about the palette but I love it. While others don’t like to see actual glitters on their face, I don’t mind it with this glow kit. Nicole Guerriero is one of my favorite youtubers and I knew once this dropped, I needed it. My favorites are Kitty Kat and Daydream. Daydream is beautiful if you’re going with a warm tone look with orangey eye shadows. I don’t have any other highlights that shade and I love it.

Here are the highlights swatched on my arm. Of course, my face is a little lighter than my body, but you can see how beautiful they are!

Left to Right:

ABH Nicole Glow Kit Kitty Kat & Daydream, ABH Moonchild Glow Kit Pink Heart & Blue Ice, Becca Champagne Pop and Laura Geller Gilded Honey.

I use 2 brushes to highlight: Anastasia A23 and Morphe M501 (I know there’s a bunch of controversy regarding Morphe brushes shedding, but the M501 brush hasn’t shed on me yet. If I did experience that I would definitely share)

I hope you liked my favorite highlights. I’m thinking of doing more posts like this so please let me know which makeup product you want to see me talk about next!

What’s in my bag?

I’m sure you aren’t surprised that my every day bag is a backpack since it’s on trend right now. But this backpack is convertible and I purchased it at Ross before Coachella last month. This is a Multisac convertible backpack with 2 zipper side pockets and a snap closure pocket on the front. It looks so small but I can fit a bunch inside. There’s a zipper pocket inside and two other smaller pockets. Here’s what’s inside:

First thing on the list is my Mini Happy Planner. I am obsessed with planners and have a bunch of different planners in my collection. I chose to bring this one everywhere with me because of how compact it is and it doesn’t hurt that it’s super cute! I normally only have one pen in my bag for work but I also have a bunch of different colored pens that I use in the planner too. I always need sunglasses with me because my eyes are very sensitive to brightness. These have an aviator kind of style with mirrored lenses. Mirrored lenses are perfect for the warmer months and we’re getting lots of sun and blue skies here in the Bay Area. I also have my vlogging camera, Samsung NX Mini. As you can see, it’s a very convenient size to carry around. I have an Apple lightning charging cable and a portable charger by Anker. I’m on my phone so much that it dies a little quicker. I wouldn’t want my phone to die in an emergency situation. I have a blue Michael Kors card holder where I keep the essentials. I have this pale blue Rebecca Minkoff keychain/mini wallet. I put my cash and change here since the card holder is a little snug for it. I can’t go anywhere without my car keys and my bright blue pepper spray makes it easier to find. A girl’s bag isn’t a bag without some makeup items. I have DUO eyelash glue, Maybelline Better Skin powder, Wet n Wild liquid lipstick, Essence make me brow gel, and chapstick.

My bag doesn’t have anything too interesting. Surprisingly, I didn’t have any trash or leftover food in my bag this time. There’s a pocket in the back of the bag that perfectly fits my iPhone 6 Plus. So that’s a plus.

My favorite every day lipsticks

Happy Hump day folks! Let’s talk about my favorite go-to lipsticks!

From Left to Right: (names of the lipsticks are links if you want to buy)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liqid Lipstick – Ashton

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Lolita

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip – Kapow

Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Lipstick – Coral Corruption

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick – Amulet

All of these, except for the Urban Decay Lipstick, are liquid lipsticks. Liquid lipsticks are the way to go if you don’t want to worry about your lipstick coming off or reapplying throughout the day. It’s been my favorite since the wave of all the liquid lipsticks starting coming out.

My favorite to wear is the ABH liquid lipstick in Ashton. I can’t even express to you how much I love this color. I first discovered it through one of Roxette Arisa’s favorites a while back and have been obsessed with it ever since. I wear this to work, on no makeup days and when I do a full face. I switch between this lipstick and Kat Von D’s Lolita. This was a cult favorite when it first came out and it was hard to get your hands on for quite awhile. I purchased this before the hype since my boyfriend liked how it looked on my lips (not surprised that he wants me to wear liquid lipsticks all the time). It was the first liquid lipstick I ever got. This formula is the most drying out of all of the liquid lipsticks but I don’t mind it as much as others might. It really does take out the moisture from your lips and this stays on the longest for me. If you’re into those beige grey lipstick colors then Colourpop’s Kapow is for you! I was obsessed with this and to me, its an every day type of color for my skin tone. Its subtle enough to wear to work but still makes a statement. This formula is dry but it doesn’t bother me too much throughout the day. Wet n Wild’s Coral Corruption is a very girly color and I like wearing it on minimal makeup days. I’m normally not a pink/coral lipstick wearer but this color is flattering for my skin tone. Lastly, Urban Decay’s Amulet is perfect if you don’t mind the finish since it is metallized. I find it moisturizing and comfortable to wear. It fades nicely so you can’t see the awkward difference between this and your natural lip color. This does come in a liquid lipstick formula too, but I only have one shade that I can’t recall the name of.

Here are the colors swatched on the back of my hand. Ashton and Lolita look very similar but I promise on my lips they look very different. Coral Corruption is pulling more orange in this swatch but like I said it’s more of a pink/coral color.

Hope you liked hearing about my favorite every day lipsticks! Please let me know which ones are your favorites and I’ll try my best to get my hands on them!

My everyday makeup

I use a mix of drugstore and high-end makeup when I do my full face before work, running errands or for special events. Here’s a breakdown of the products I use (I’ll be going in the order I do my makeup and the numbers correspond with the product above) I don’t currently have a primer or setting spray since I ran out. Whoops.

12. Coty Airspun Translucent powder – I use this before applying my foundation to set my primer. I got this trick from Wayne Goss. It helps my foundation stay matte and stay on my face longer. I also use this to bake my under eye so my concealer doesn’t crease throughout the day.

9. LA Girl HD Pro Concealer in Green – I mix this with the same concealer I use for my under eyes which I will mention shortly. I have redness to my cheeks and on my chin so I use this to color correct those areas. I mix it with a regular concealer to help it blend into my skin a little bit better instead of having a green splotch on my face to cover up.

13. NYX Cosmetics Dark Circle Concealer in Medium – This step just depends on how dark my under eyes are when I’m getting ready. I use this to cancel out the darkness before putting on my foundation.

3. Sonia Kashuk Soft Focus Satin Matte Foundation in Bamboo – I love this foundation. I picked it up because I saw that Casey Holmes raved about it. Ever since I’ve been using this foundation. I blend it out with my beauty sponge and I love the finish. It’s a buildable foundation so I find myself applying just a little bit more on my cheeks for more coverage.

8. Covergirl Outlast All-Day Soft Focus Concealer in Medium – I use this under my eyes, down the bridge of my nose, on my chin and in the center of my forehead to brighten those areas. I don’t use concealers that are dramatically lighter than my foundation. I want my under eyes and the rest of the areas I use this concealer to look naturally brighter. This isn’t the best concealer but it gets the job done. (my fave is the nyx HD concealer in medium)

11. ELF Beautifully Bare Finishing Face Powder in Medium/Deep – In my opinion this is more for medium skin tones so it works for my skin tone. I use this with a fluffy brush to set the rest of my face and to buff away the powder under my eyes.

1. Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette – I use the shade Subconsious (the deep brown shade) to contour my face. I use a light hand while carving out my cheek bones, my templesm, contouring my nose and jaw line. I use the shade Shadowplay (the soft brown) to blend my contour and add more warmth to the face.

4. Too Faced Soul Mates Blushing Bronzer in Ross & Rachel – I only use the blush shade and use this to give my cheeks a rosy color. I use this with a small stipling brush because it doesn’t pick up too much product.

10/14/15. Smashbox Spotlight Palette in Pearl, Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Moonchild & Nicole Glow – It depends how I’m feeling which highlight I use. If I want my highlight to be bold and different I grab the moonchild glow kit and choose either pink heart or blue ice. If I want a blinding highlight I go for the Nicole Glow and I choose the shade Daydreamer. It’s so beautiful on the skin and I don’t have another highlight like it. If I want a natural and subtle glow I go for the spotlight palette. I talk more bout it in my previous post!

6. Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in 4 – This has been my go to brow pencil since the beginning of the year. I choose this over the ABH brow definer because I feel like this one is a drier formula which I like better. I can do a natural brow or a really dramatic brow for nights out. Love this.

7. Dolly Wink Liquid Eyeliner in Deep Black – I don’t do eyeliner every day and on most days, when I do eyeliner its a small line. But this can do a great cat eye too. The only downside is that it can dry out quick if its not stored downwards.

2. Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara in Blackest Black – I haven’t used mascara in a while because I’ve had eyelash extensions since my birthday in February. I’m letting the extensions fall naturally so I can get a new set next month. This mascara I use for my bottom lashes (tip: set your face with your favorite setting spray before using this. I have the regular formula so it transfered on my under eyes, which made it more work to remove.)

5. DUO Dark Tone Striplash Adhesive – My fave lash glue! I prefer dark tones so it lakes my lashes look fuller since I don’t use eyeliner everyday.

Lastly, I pair my look with whichever lipstick color I’m feeling that day. My favorite colors to wear are nudes, orange and purple. Hehe. Hope you enjoy the products I use for my face!

Smashbox x Casey Holmes Highlight

I have been trying out the Casey Holmes collab with Smashbox for a couple of weeks. When I was at Ulta, I was so happy that they had it in stock. I decided with Pearl because the Gold palette had a darker bronze shade that I didn’t see myself using. The shades in this palette are highlights that I normally gravitate towards.

I’m used to a more blinding highlight but this is definitely buildable. Even my boyfriend noticed that it was a little more subtle than I’m used to. I see myself wearing this highlight when I’m going for a minimal makeup face on days that I’m at work or running errands. The shades (from left to right) are Turn it on Pearl, Crank it up Pearl, and Blow a fuse Pearl. My fave is Crank it up Pearl.

Subtle everyday glow

This is how the shade “Crank it up Pearl” looks on my cheek. Sorry my big sunnies are in the way but you can see it’s subtle glow. I didn’t do much this day just hung out with friends and ate dinner. So a blinding highlight wasn’t my go to.

Overall, these highlights are ok in my opinion. I find that at the end of the day the highlight has worn off. But it doesn’t emphasize the texture I have on my cheeks like other highlights. So that is a plus for me.
