My Experience w/ Eyelash Extensions

I just recently got a fresh full set of lash extensions and I couldn’t be happier. Last year before Coachella was the first time I ever considered getting lash extensions. At first I was a little apprehensive because I didn’t know much about it. Of course, I did a little bit of research and got a recommendation to a location by my best friend, so I decided to take the plunge into getting the process done.

My lashes, in my opinion, are medium length. They are naturally straight and don’t hold a curl unless I use waterproof mascara. My first experience was ok. It made my lashes more full and gave it a little bit more length. It wasn’t as dramatic and curly as I thought it would be so I decided not to get my second fill done and naturally let the extensions fall off.

A few months after that, a friend contacted me saying that a friend of his was getting into lash extensions and was looking for girls who were interested in a complimentary full set for more experience. The end result was more full and slightly longer but nothing too dramatic. I also decided not to come back for a fill.

I thought that I was done with eyelash extensions at that point but at the end of last year, I came across a lash tech that my friends from college were going to and the lashes were full, long and super curly. I fell in love. I decided to schedule an appointment before my birthday earlier this year.

Fast forward to summertime and here we are. These are a classic set of size 13 D curl lash extensions and I love them! My lash tech is incredibly sweet and took her time with my lashes. It didn’t hurt and I was completely relaxed that I was able to take a nap for the last part of the session.

Now taking care of your lashes… The first 24 hours you aren’t supposed to get the lashes wet. I believe that it helps the glue set. But don’t quote me on that. That part isn’t hard for me because I wash my face outside of the shower with my Clarisonic Mia 2 and I avoid the eye area. I also don’t normally wash my hair everyday.

You also need a lash wand to brush out your lashes everyday. That’s a pro tip to the longevity of the lashes. I use this one that I got awhile back from the complementary lash extension session. It’s retractable and perfect to bring in my makeup bag. You can wear makeup with lash extensions and its recommended to use only oil-free makeup products. My favorites for foundation are the L’Oreal Pro-Matte or the Milani 2 in 1 foundation. I haven’t found an oil-free concealer that I like so I’m still on the hunt for that. (Also don’t put mascara on your extensions) I also use the green Garnier micellar water to remove my makeup. It’s gentle on the eyes and I use a Q-tip around the lash line.

If you have questions on lash extensions, please feel free to ask me. I’m not an expert and I can only give you my honest opinion based on my experience. Also, I would love to know if you’ve ever had eyelash extensions done or plan to get it done in the comments!
